The 52nd Codex International Commission on Food Additives was held smoothly

On September 1, 2021, the 52nd Codex International Commission on Food Additives (CCFA) video conference opened. More than 400 representatives from more than 90 member states, one member organization (eu) and 30 international organizations attended the meeting.

This meeting is the 14th meeting held by China as the host country of CCFA, chaired by Fan Yongxiang, the deputy Director of the National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment. Liu Jinfeng, director of the Department of Food Safety Standards, Monitoring and Evaluation of the NHC, attended the video conference and delivered a speech on behalf of Lei Haichao, deputy Director of the NHC. He said the Chinese government attaches great importance to food safety, and President Xi Jinping has called for "the most rigorous standards, the strictest supervision, the most severe punishment and the most serious accountability" to ensure the safety of consumers. China's NHC has performed its duties in accordance with the law, continuously improved food safety, nutrition and health, and achieved notable results. He said that the Chinese government will continue to support the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, fulfill its role as host country, overcome COVID-19 and other difficulties, and work with all of you to advance the formulation of codex standards, make new efforts and contributions to the development of the Codex Alimentarius system, and contribute to the realization of the 2030 Sustainable development health goals.

The meeting focused on the coordination of food additive provisions in the International Codex General Standard for Food Additives (GFSA), GSFA and Codex product standard, the food additive quality specification standard developed by JECFA, the international coding system for food additives, and the list of food additives for priority evaluation by JECFA, etc. More than 400 international regulations on the use of food additives are expected to be reviewed.

A Chinese delegation consisting of more than 20 representatives from the National Health Commission, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, State Administration for Market Regulation, General Administration of Customs, Food and Substance Reserves Administration, China Food Industry Association, China Food Additives and Ingredients Association and China Commerce Federation attended the meeting. Researcher Wang Zhutian of National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center is the head of the Chinese delegation. The Chinese delegation took an active part in the discussions on the codex Standard for Food Additives. China will use the CCFA meeting as a platform to actively carry out cooperation and exchanges with relevant parties and comprehensively improve the level of domestic food safety management.
