Apec Ministerial Meeting on Food Security will be held in 2021

On 19 August, the APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security 2021 was held under the theme "Digital and Innovative Initiatives for FOOD Security in APEC economies in the face of COVID-19". Chinese Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Ma Youxiang led a delegation to the meeting.


Ma youxiang pointed out that since the outbreak of COVID-19, the Chinese government has attached great importance to harnessing the power of innovation and digital technology to better guarantee food security. One is to rely on science and technology to promote grain production, the other is to rely on digital classroom to provide training for farmers, and the third is to rely on machine harvest to help reduce grain loss. To ensure food security in the Asia-Pacific region, he put forward three proposals: adhere to the principle of win-win cooperation and promote scientific and technological innovation and research and development cooperation; Persisting in seizing digital opportunities, strengthening research and application of digital technology; Adhere to the concept of grain reduction, promote the whole chain reduction.

Ma youxiang noted that the APEC Food Security Roadmap to 2030 is an important outcome of the IMPLEMENTATION of the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 in the agricultural sector. He suggested promoting liberalization and facilitation of agricultural investment and trade in the Asia-Pacific region. Encourage best case sharing and communication; Strengthening international cooperation in the fields of food loss reduction and digital.

The meeting was held by video. The apec Ministerial Statement on Food Security was adopted at the meeting, which was chaired by the host, New Zealand Minister of Agriculture John O 'Connor. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration attended the meeting.
